A voluntary drug test as part of a child abuse investigation is not exactly what a movie star will want to do in his lifetime. But that is exactly what Brad Pitt went through just days after reports of an “occurrence” with his 15-year-old son were made public.

People confirmed Brad Pitt willingly agreed to do the test and is cooperating fully with the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) which has embarked on a thorough investigative operation to decipher the truth about the child abuse allegation.

Child abuse allegations are not uncommon with US mega stars, and the attention such issues get is usually huge. On September 22, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and the DCFS were reportedly investigating Brad Pitt. According to TMZ and People, the movie star is being investigated for being “verbally abusive” and “physical” toward his son. They were all returning to the US from France when the incident reportedly took place on the family’s private plane.

While Pitt is under investigation for being aggressive towards his son, there have been confusing reports on which state authority is involved in the case and in what capacity. The LAPD has said it is not investigating the movie icon, while the DCFS through a spokesman could not confirm or deny the information, citing confidentiality laws as its main reason for this. It is rather the FBI that confirmed that it was in the early stages of an investigation on the matter. An FBI statement from The Hollywood Reporter states that, “In response to inquiry regarding allegations within the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States; specifically, an aircraft carrying Mr. Brad Pitt and his children, the FBI is continuing to gather facts and will evaluate whether an investigation at the federal level will be pursued.”

Brad Pitt cancelled a scheduled appearance in Terrence Malick’s movie, Voyage of Time. He did not exactly cite the plane incident as the cause of this, but he released a statement saying he is “very grateful to be part of such a fascinating and educational project, but I’m currently focused on my family situation and don’t want to distract attention away from this extraordinary film, which I encourage everyone to see.” Pitt is the narrator of the movie.

Pitt’s wife Angelina Jolie filed for divorce after being with him for more than a decade. The two have been married for two years. Jolie, another renowned Hollywood figure said she had “irreconcilable differences” with Brad Pitt. She has asked for physical custody of all their six children leaving Pitt with just joint legal custody and visitation rights.

Did you know an addiction can be caused by a mental disorder?

One of the primary reasons that mental disorders and substance abuse so often go hand-in-hand is that drugs and alcohol can provide an escape from the pressures of mental health problems. Self-medicating is surprisingly common: you’re not alone.

But unlike real, effective, long-term solutions, such as medication and detoxification in a treatment center, drugs and alcohol won’t amount to effective treatment.

If you suspect that your loved one is suffering from addiction, then take our free 3 minute assessment.
